"Revolutionary AI Predicts Employee Turnover - Stay Ahead with NDTV"

In a groundbreaking development, Japanese researchers have created an artificial intelligence (AI) tool that can predict when new recruits are at risk of quitting their jobs. The AI tool, developed by Tokyo City University professor Naruhiko Shiratori and a start-up based in the Japanese capital, analyzes data on employees' attendance records, age, gender, and other personal information to create a turnover model for each firm.

When fed data on new recruits, the tool predicts who is at risk of quitting "in percentage points." The tool has already been tested with several companies, and Shiratori plans to upgrade it to suggest suitable assignments for new employees based on information from job interviews and their personal histories.

The AI tool is particularly relevant for Japanese businesses, which traditionally hire graduates at the same time each year. However, about one in 10 recruits fresh from college quit their jobs within a year, and around 30 percent leave their company within three years, according to the labor ministry.

The AI tool could help managers provide targeted support to staff to stop them from quitting, without revealing the raw figure to the employee, which could be shocking. Shiratori suggests that the tool could be used to offer support to high-risk employees, without making them feel singled out.

The AI tool builds on a previous study using AI to predict the characteristics of university students likely to drop out. Shiratori and his team are planning to upgrade the tool to suggest suitable assignments for new employees based on information from job interviews and their personal histories.

The development of the AI tool is a significant step forward in the use of AI in the workplace. While some may see it as an invasion of privacy, others argue that it could help companies retain valuable employees and reduce the financial and organizational costs of turnover.

As AI continues to evolve, it is likely that we will see more tools like this one being developed to help businesses make informed decisions about their employees' well-being and career development.
